Nintendo Wii Review

When this hit the shelves late last year, the going price was almost around 30k Pesos here in the Philippines.  And that is not even modified.  Modding allows for the electronic insertion of a chip which you will have to purchase separately, that will allow you to de-regionalize your console.  In other words, you would be able to play U.S. games on the Japan Version, and vice versa, and you can also use your backed up games.

Nintendo Wii Fun and Exercise

3 independent studies from California State University, West Virginia, and Liverpool John Moores University have all concluded that the Wii is a viable workout:
“Kids burn 40% more calories”

“Through our testing it is clear that the motion sensor-controlled console can make an impact on a child’s heart rate, energy expenditure and the amount of calories burned”

Read about the studies, here and here

As evident with my 3 year old daughter who went toe to toe boxing with me, "dad, my arms are tired".

Browsing on the Nintendo Wii

On April 12, 2007, Opera Software and yo wNintendo released the much-anticipated full version of the Internet Channel, powered by the Opera browser. The Internet Channel can now be downloaded directly from the Wii Shop Channel on any connected Wii™ console.

Opera is that other third browser, next in line to Mozilla Firefox, who are both catching up to the well known Microsoft Internet Explorer.

To surf the internet using your Nintendo Wii (you'd want to just because you can), Visit the Wii shopping channel right on your Wii's menu. You would be prompted to enable all your wifi settings for your console as you would your wifi enabled laptop to recognize your router.  That is assuming you intend to use your router for this experiment.

Bikram Yoga Manila- Day 2

I had my second yoga class last night.  As Ingrid said during the first session, the succeeding classes will be easier.  I was able to go through all 26 poses without pausing or sitting down for a rest.  I felt that my balance and stamina have also improved tremendously.  Only the flexibility aspect remained to be a challenge for me, but I think that's really the hardest part of yoga.

Bikram Yoga Manila Review – Day 1

After so many months of talking about it, my friends and I finally joined our first Yoga class. They started their first class last week while I started mine last night.

According to the Bikram Yoga Manila website, this is the first and only officially sanctioned Bikram Yoga studio in the Philippines. They have branches in Makati and Quezon City. One major difference of Bikram Yoga from other types of Yoga is the 38 degrees centigrade room temperature. Initially, I felt like I was gonna pass out. But I remembered what Ingrid, our Australian instructor, told me during the briefing, something like… “It’s mind over body”. So, by keeping my mind focused and breathing deeply, I felt that I can balance and do the poses better.

Later, I realized that the room temperature helps in keeping your muscles flexible and less prone to injury. The temperature also helps you wash out your toxins away. The 90-minute class is actually a series of 26 postures which exercises all muscle groups. After the class, I felt that I must have lost several liters of sweat (two pounds of it according to my weighing scale).  Smile There is also a general sense of lightness and improved blood circulation.

I enrolled for a trial 3-classes-for-7-days which cost P900. There are several packages that will suit your schedule and preference.  If you don't like to do cardiovascular exercises like walking, jogging, cycling, aerobics, etc, I strongly recommend this type of Yoga.  I was quite surprised that a number of "senior citizens" were attending the class regularly.  And they all looked fit and "glowing".  So, go for a trial class  and don't forget to check out their site for more info on what to wear and what to bring. Namaste…
