Boston Celtics and LA Lakers back to the NBA Finals!

The Boston Celtics eliminated the Detroit Pistons 89-81 in Game 6 of the NBA Eastern conference finals a few minutes ago to join the Los Angeles Lakers in the 2008 NBA Finals.

The dream matchup makes fans, league officials and the TV network moguls salivate.  Boston GM Danny Ainge set the wheels in motion at the start of the season by bringing in All Stars Ray Allen and Kevin Garnett to join Paul Pierce in a bold move that woke up Celtic fans around the globe and stirred the dormant leprechauns.

The Dancing Girl Brain Test

Watch this video and see which way is the girl turning?

If you see this lady turning in clockwise you are using your right brain. If you see it the other way, you are using left brain.

Some people do see both ways, but most people see it only one way.

See if you can make her go one way and then the other by shifting the brain's current. BOTH DIRECTIONS CAN BE SEEN

Experimentation has shown that the two different sides, or hemispheres, of the brain are responsible for different manners of thinking. The following table illustrates the differences between left-brain and right-brain thinking:

Philippine Airlines launches new online booking system

Philippine Airlines has launched a new online booking system called "Calendar Pricing".  This new system displays the lowest fare available over a seven day range.  I like this new system as it gives the traveler options on dates, flights and fares that are available to them.  Whereas before, I had to go through "trial and error" to get the cheapest flights.  But now, after entering the preferred dates and destination, all the information needed are available.  I had not booked any actual flights yet so I don't know how the payment system works.  But I think this system is for round trip and one-way flights only.  It's not for multiple destination tickets.

Biggest Thinnest Flash SSD : Samsung 256gb

Samsung unveiled in prototype form at a Samsung event in Taipei, has the same form factor as a 9.5-millimeter high 2.5-inch hard-disk drive for which it is designed to be a drop-in replacement.

Solid-state disks (SSDs) are an emerging type of storage device that use flash memory chips in place of the spinning magnetic disks used in hard-disk drives. The memory chips mean the drives are more sturdy and typically have a higher performance but the per-byte storage cost is also much higher, so they are generally more expensive. That has largely restricted them to niche applications but as flash prices come down they are expected to become more widely used.

The prototype drive has a read speed of 200M bytes per second (Bps) and a sequential write speed of 160M Bps, said Samsung.

Movies to watch: 21 and Street Kings

I know Indiana Jones is currently the most hyped movie out there but based on several so-so reviews from friends, I think my wife and I are gonna pass and wait for the DVD release.

We were able to catch a couple of flicks though and both weren't too shabby.

How to remove mebroot financial virus

Mebroot trojan is one of the newest trojan threats to hit the Web in early 2008. Its main destructive payload is infecting the Master Boot Record code and wreaking havoc on the infected system. This pest installs a rootkit in early stages of the system boot process, which hides the presence of the Mebroot trojan on your system.

A rootkit is a malicious program that hides deep in a computer's operating system and can be difficult to remove.

Since December, Hypponen said they've seen alpha and beta versions of the Mebroot rootkit but believe it has now been RTMed, the term usually used for a legitimate piece of software that's entered production after testing.

PSEi clues: PHI will TEL us the way

On the second chart directly above, last Friday's close of local PLDT shares (stock symbol TEL) brings us at 2675, which is right at the upper range of an 8 month downtrending range for TEL.

It's foreign counterpart (see topmost chart) already confirms the downtrend yet again, with the inability to break out and is heading down to the lower end of the channel, with a target of around $55.  This corresponds to a local TEL price of about 2365.

This 310 peso difference (from 2675 to 2365) is actually the whole range from top to bottom of the pattern, which may contribute to an estimated cumulative 80 point drop in the PSEi (not to be taken in a single day, mind you).

Meralco Proxy Fight

Only late last month, ABS-cbnnews reported that the GSIS had no plans in taking over Meralco.

The government pension fund GSIS, together with other state firms Social Security System (SSS), Home Development Mutual Fund (HDMF or Pag-ibig), Land Bank of the Philippines and PhilHealth own a 33% stake in Meralco.

The Lopezes, through First Philippine Holdings Corporation (FPHC), own 33.4% of the total shares. The rest is owned by public investors.

Last February, the GSIS bought a 10% stake in Meralco from the national government.

That, combined with an existing 8% stake and purchases through the stock market, gave it a 23% stake in Meralco, making it the second largest shareholder next to First Philippine Holdings Corp.
