Pinoy Entrepreneurs Beware! Scams and Cons

One very important instinct every business person should develop is how to sniff out the bad eggs.  There are a lot of swindlers with various type of modus operandi to dupe you of your hard earned money.  More so if you are an entrepreneur since they know that we entrepreneurs live by one creed (or should I say greed)… "Never turn away a customer".  They take advantage of this and wave a bait in front of you like a huge order or something.  There are huge scammers and mini-scammers.  Anyway, here are some experiences and I would like to share it with you lest you encounter the same group of swindlers.

Does Window dressing mean stocks will go up

Not necessarily so for a general market already tanking.

For investorwords, window-dressing means the deceptive practice of some mutual funds, in which recently weak stocks are sold and recently strong stocks are bought just before the fund's holdings are made public, in order to give the appearance that they've been holding good stocks all along.

Investopedia Says…     Performance reports and a list of the holdings in a mutual fund are usually sent to clients every quarter. To window dress, the fund manager will sell stocks with large losses and purchase high flying stocks near the end of the quarter. These securities are then reported as part of the fund's holdings.

Be Prepared: DIY Survival Kits

The PAGASA has been getting a lot of flack for not making a timely and accurate forecast for Typhoon Frank.  But I've been monitoring the typhoon through www.maybagyo.com and the site has a compilation of the forecasted tracks made by the different weather agencies in Japan, USA, Hongkong, Taiwan, Beijing, etc.  At first the majority of forecasts showed Frank would hit Metro Manila, then the next forecast showed it missing Metro Manila.  I think only one agency made the correct forecast for Frank by sticking with the Metro Manila route.  (I had forgotten which agency it was, sorry).

Where’s my Mrs. Fields Chewy Fudge cookie?

One of my most fave chocolate dessert is Mrs. Fields Chewy Fudge cookies.  I love its gooey inside and the extremely chocolatey taste.  (its the dark brown one in the photo)  However, I was quite disappointed last Sunday when I learned that it had been phased-out.  I am not sure if its true but that was what the "telebabad" girl at the Trinoma branch told me.  I went to the branches at Podium and The Block some days earlier and the girls at the counter just told me "Wala na."  I just assumed they meant they ran out of stock since it was already closing time when I went.

When I went to Trinoma and saw that there were none even when it was still early in the morning, I asked the girl (chit-chatting and hiding under the counter) and she said it was phased out, for four months now.  Hmmm… I remember buying my last cookie just one month ago.  But before I could ask the girl, she went back to her more important duties on the phone.  Sigh…
