Youtube video: Ely Buendia suffers chest pains, cuts short Eraserheads Reunion Concert

A string of "unfortunate" events befell Ely Buendia and the Eraserheads in just a month, or was it a week?  First, Philip Morris, who was their major sponsor for the much awaited Eraserheads reunion concert pulled out at the last minute.  The pull out was due to a violation of an existing Philippine law which states that cigarette and tobaco companies are banned from sponsoring concerts, sports, cultural events, etc.  Radio Media Solutions took over as the concert's sponsor.  Secondly, Ely Buendia's mom died of cardiac arrest last August 28 while going under an operation for intestinal cancer.  Despite these happenings, the band decided to push through with the concert.   Around 60,000 fans trooped to Global City Open Field to watch the "historic" concert last night. However after the first set of the concert, Ely Buendia reportedly suffered chest pains and had to be rushed to Makati Medical Center.  He was transferred to Philippine Heart Center this Sunday morning.  No other information regarding his condition has been released to public as of this moment.

Ateneo Blue Eagles’ Chris Tiu: Will this be the year?

Six years waiting seems far too long for someone who has the world in the palm of his hands. Nonetheless, Chris Tiu has put in the time, endured the harsh criticisms (remember that momentum breaking missed wide open layup against DLSU in his sophomore year?), and deferred long enough to senior Eagles in years past (from Fonacier to Tenorio to the Macky-Doug-JC troika).  And make no mistake, he has come back to play for the Blue and White for a 5th and final year because he wants that championship in the worst way possible.  Over the last three years, he has established himself as one of the all time greatest clutch performers in Ateneo, if not UAAP history.

Here are a few of his pressure packed highlights: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z4PrOtVqzV8#

2008 Formula 1 SingTel Singapore Grand Prix -Sept. 26,2008

I visited the Singapore Grand Prix website  (http://www.singaporegp.sg/index.ph) yesterday and learned that almost 95% of the tickets have been sold.  Not that I am planning to go but it just amazes me that 300,000 tickets at more or less one thousand Singapore dollars have been sold out!!!

The race will be held around Singapore streets and at night.  Is it really worth all that money just to wait for some cars to speed by?  I'd rather go shopping instead. Laughing

P5 COLA inclusion in minimum wage starts Aug. 28, 2008.

Under Wage order NCR No. 14, workers in Metro Manila will start to receive the additional P5 COLA or Cost of Living Allowance into their daily minimum pay.  The P5 COLA will now be included in the computation of the workers' wage-related benefits.  Wage related benefits under the Labor Code include the 13th month pay, the equivalent of the 11 paid regular holidays, the five days leave and the premiums under the SSS, Philhealth, HDMF, etc.  The minimum wage is now pegged at P382/day for Metro Manila workers.

BDO mistakenly charges dollars in credit card bills

Some Credit card owners like me will be shocked to see some of their bills charged in dollars.  I was shocked to see a 400 peso bill charged instead 400 dollars!

As per Citibank operator, it was BDO's general error on all transactions posted and handled by them last August 16 to 18,2008 and errors have since been reversed.  Only billing statements that were sent out automatically did not reflect the corrections.

Similar article appears on yugatech,  which states that only Mastercard transactions handled by BDO were affected.  This means that even BPI, HSBC etc on mastercard would also be affected by the bdo booboo.

Is the Stock Market Gambling or Investing?

Merriam-Webster Dictionary's definition for "invest" is : "to commit (money) in order to earn a financial return." And  "to make use of for future benefits or advantages."

For the word "gamble", the dictionary defines it as "to play a game for money or property" and  "to stake something on a contingency."

Although gambling shares many of the principles of good investing, and while they are alike in many ways, dealing with investments on a fluctuating market is not gambling. The reason it is not gambling is because there are predictable methods to investing and gaining in the stock market, while even the best gambler takes tremendous risk in what amounts to be a zero sum situation.

Chico and Delamar versus Mo Twister

As I was listening to the radio this morning, 89.9 DJ Mo Twister was narrating how a certain radio commercial he did that was played on rival station rx 93.1 was treated by the rival DJs.  He said unsurely that either or both Chico Garcia (Frederick Lagbao in real life) and Delamar of the Morning Rush commented that the commercial was offensive.  In what way, Mo Twister did not elaborate.of

He would go on to say that commercials were "fair ground" or "level playing fields" and should not be part  of the network war.

Mo's next action was to declare "fair play" by playing an old commercial allegedly done by "chico", which he found on the internet.
