After days of uncertainty, wall street rallies on better than expected jobs data.   U.S. non-farm payrolls fell 247,000 in July, lower than the consensus forecast of 330,000 (which was later on even revised by some to 250,000)and the 443,000 posted in June.

Asia responds with a strong rally of their own, after punters bought back shares which they previously dumped ahead of the jobs report.  Locally, we shot up to over 60 points, corrected about 20 points before reclaiming territories near the high by closing.

Responsible for 31 points, or half of the index's climb was MER once again.  Revitalized back to 262.5 after news reports that San Miguel will fight for control of Lopez's remaining MER shares.

Comparatively, TEL pulled a shabby 35 peso gain to 2480 which was worth only 8 psei points.

The RSA MVP takeover mill continues to sizzle the PX tree, being top index gainer to close .90 more cents at 9.9.
