— THE NEW YEAR SANDWICH EDITION —

The PSEi ended the year at 3,050. Only a handful of stocks were dressed , notable ones are MER, MEG, LC, and AGI.

Looking ahead to next year, I am actually expecting a strong rally to greet us this new year. While US stocks have actually been strong the last couple of weeks, our market has behaved so anemically. The reason being that most fundies are already out on early vacation. I feel a lot of these fundies have actually wound down their positions way ahead, probably through already by early to mid-December.

I myself have actually gave up on ANY window dressing activity for this year about 2 weeks back. The fact that the market has held up its head high above 3,000 despite the recent negative breadth speaks STRENGTH of Samson proportions.

Daily Market Notes December 29, 2009 Window Dressing Upwards

PSEi   3,052.68         UP     19.84
value php  3,464,582,725.00

After continuous days of gains, Wall street only ekes out a .2% gain on all three majors this time.  Meanwhile, the chances of the Fed raising rates by .25 in late January 2010 are over 50%.

But the PSEi that faltered about last week made up for it in the past two days, continuing santa's dress up on the year's last trading day.

Once again, all the top gainers and losers had no volume to write home to santa about.

Today's cross stars were: AEV 702M crossed, of the 703m php total traded for AEV.  CHIB 664M PHP Crossed, from the total traded 667m php. PX 157M crossed from the total 198m traded.  This brings the 3 most active but due to crossed stock's total value crossed to 1.5B pesos, or about 45% of total market traded.

Trading in the PSEi has reached unusually anemic levels lately, and most fund managers by this time may have already wrapped up this year 2009.

Heading into the last day of trading, your stock/s may not be in the menu for dressing come tomorrow, but worry not, because as long as the reason for buying the stock/s exist and does not change THEN early next year, most of our patience I feel will be greatly rewarded.

Daily Market Notes December 28, 2009

PSEi    3,032.84         UP      8.51
value php     2,033,967,855.00

DOW     53.66 +0.51% 10,520.10
NASDAQ 16.05 +0.71% 2,285.69
S&P 500   5.89 +0.53% 1,126.48

Wall street continues with its step by step window dressing, now entering fresh 52 week highs and the DJIA now breaking 10,500.

Local traded volume were anemic at 2B pesos, 800M of which were even just crosses of CHIB and SM.  Total number of trades fell to 3,800, which was half that compared to the middle of this month.

The PSEindex traipsed between the zero postive and negative line many times, before the window dressers finally settled the index up 8 points, thanks to TEL EDC SMPH PX FPH MBT.

Most of the top 10 losers and gainers didn't show volume either.

LN’s UCC’s : A Reason in Reflection …

This May '09, I was given my own thread, a LAIR to be exact by Boss Dragon. I was at first very hesitant, as I don't know if I am up to it. Well, markets being bullish helped me look good, and thanks to the support the all of you have given me, my lair has been a relative success…

Daily Market Notes December 23, 2009 WEB Philweb and ISM Ism Communications jointly acquire Acentic gmbh

PSEi   3,024.33         UP      8.17
value php     3,580,105,185.00

DOW      50.79 +0.49% 10,464.93
NASDAQ 15.01 +0.67% 2,252.67
S&P 500   3.97 +0.36% 1,118.0

US GDP data fell slightly short of expectations, but housing data surprised to the upside showing better home sales data compared to the past 3 years.  This fuels the sustained attack near 10,400 again for the djia.

The PSEi traded flat for the most part of the day, only turning green at the last few minutes.  This was largely due to SM's 7.50 gain to 322.  This window dressing feat was worth 2.55 psei points, and done on 98m nfb.

Next top gainer was MER at 198, but FPH sank to 46 due to Daiwa's relatively heavy selling.

Daily Market Notes December 22, 2009 LFM Liberty and SOC South China Resources sell stake in Liberty to Two Cassandra

NASDAQ 25.97 +1.17% 2,237.66
S&P 500 11.58 +1.05% 1,114.0

Still not much could be said for a market that traded only 2B this holiday season, of which were 418M pesos worth of SM crosses.  SM's total value traded amounted to 485M pesos, of which were 395m pesos.

SOC South South China sold its BellTel stake for P1.23 billion, while LFM Liberty Flour's price was P227.37 million. The stake was sold to Two Cassandra-CCI, which has five incorporators — Deogracia De La Paz, IV, Jose Luis Moreno, Noel del Merced, Rafael San Agustin, Jr. and Michael Tiaoqui.
