Best Alternative Sites for Mininova

Now that mininova has gone bust, a lot are asking where to get their favorite torrents: updated and organized in the mininova way?

Mininova disabled access to over a million torrent files when it partly shut down its website after 5 years of being online, partly due to the negative ruling on thepiratebay.

The most glaring reason for this change in format was last August a Dutch court ruled that Mininova had to remove all links to ‘infringing’ torrent files, with disastrous consequences.

Since it is technically unfeasible to pre-approve or filter every potentially infringing torrent file, the Mininova team decided to throw in the towel and only allow torrents to be submitted by approved uploaders. This move resulted in the deletion of more than a million torrents, many of which were not infringing any copyrights at all.

askmetafilter compiles user comments on good p2p sites that segregate torrent category into specifics.

=use BakaBT for anime. You have to join, but it doesn't require an invite and doesn't cost anything. All they really require is that you upload about as much as you download when using their torrents.

=use TheBox for British TV shows, which is excellent and richly stocked with British content. They ask for a decent ratio but also make it very easy to keep one.

=use Coda.fm for music (whole albums). The selection is pretty solid, but I've found that eMule is pretty essential for anything the least bit obscure that can't sustain a torrent. Coda's layout is nice and clean and you can just page backwards in time by genre to sweep up lots of torrents.

=use EZTV for TV show needs. They're a release group and don't run their own tracker, but their website is nicely organized and they link to all their releases on the trackers they upload to. The website is currently down while they switch to a new server, but they're still making all their releases available.

=BT Junkie for TV shows with comments & ratings, you can't do better than. They don't really specialize in TV shows though, so depending on what files you're looking for they may not be the best fit on that score
