Excerpts from the report I'm working on…
Accounting for almost 2% of the Philippine’s 89 million population, the Filipino-Chinese or Chinoys as they are usually referred to, are estimated to own up to 70% of the country’s wealth. They dominate the local economy with businesses ranging from small hardware stores and groceries to large scale companies in the retail, manufacturing, real estate and banking industries. It is widely known that the most prominent business tycoons in the Philippines are Filipino-Chinese.
I recently went back to Manila for my annual vacation. While I truly enjoyed my stay, being with my family and all, I could not help but feel sad for the country. It would have been bad enough to see that nothing has changed, but the sad news is, things did change…FOR THE WORSE!!! I am based in Shanghai, have been for the past couple of years, so I do know what positive change looks and feels like.
