Chinese Valentine's Day 2009??? - ?????- – - – THE MONTH OF AUGUST = AuGHOST OR AuGOSH month – - – - -

This month of August happens to be the start of the dreaded ghost month. It officially kicks off August 10th.. For investors this usually means thin volumes, and for many in the industry, this usually means escape to vacation-land…

What do I make of this feared month? I do feel everything will just turn out alright.

Last night, DOW was down over 100-pts, this mainly due to the disappointment in the GDP growth rate, which has been steadily declining, reading was at 2.4%..  but a slew of better than expected economic readings propped the indices to close the day unchanged. The earnings season has come to an abrupt end, and it left the S & P still unable to get past its 200-day MA situated near 1,113.

Finance Manila Absolute Traders Get Together with Investor Friends

What a week that was, after several weeks of planning with our friends at Absolute Traders, we were able to come up with a very special event that was enjoyed by most.

PROLOGUE

I must admit, the past big gatherings stressed me out a lot, as most of the preparations (finding venue, booking venue, commitment, headcount, front door guest list paying/receiving, emcee, food coordination, speech, etc.) were done by me.  It did not help that I was recently diagnosed with GERD (Gastro acid reflux something!) which the doctor said was stress related.  I’m really not that much stressed in stocks lately, so I surmise it must have been 3-cups-o-coffee-a-day related.  Anyhow, it was such a big thing that Absolute Traders virtually took over the administrating and organizing the event, and finding the sponsors and event presenters!

Longneck’s UCC’s (Useful Chit-Chats) : My Thoughts on the Recent Subprime Crisis

The recent subprime financial crisis : what really happened, what’s happening, and my thoughts as to what will happen — these will be discussed and linked as thoroughly as possible by yours truly in simple layman’s terms in this special edition of my UCC’s.

I have this thought that has dangled in my mind for ohhh so long, but I decided to come out with it just recently, because I want to confirm my own personal theory as to the US unemployment data indeed making a u-turn to recovery.

We know for a fact that stock markets usually move way way in advance ahead of any crisis or recovery. Just keep this in mind as you read along.

DOW’s 100pt rise last night was greeted by a muted response as although our index psei did end up gaining 26pts, market breadth was not as positive as one might have expected.

Leading the way was TEL’s P55.00 rise to P2,600 translating to 16 gained PSEi pts. This alone accounts for more than half of that 26pts. Not to be outdone, PX rise to P19.00 also gave 5 pts.

Banking except for BPI were all marginally lower to unchanged, though positive foreign fund flow into the sector is still quite visible and evident.
